How to make Sandbag for Wargaming Terrain // Sandsäcke für Tabletop Gelände bauen

This little tutorial shows my way of modelling sandbags. I modeled the sandbags to make a silicone mold. The casts are used for my terrain works. 

GERMAN: In diesem Tutorial zeige ich eine Methode, um Sandsack Barrikaden herzustellen. 

You need some sort of modelling putty. I recommend Bees Putty which is a oven hardening modelling clay. It is really great! Then you need two even boards. I used sealed Multiplex cuttings. Use what you have on hand. 

GERMAN: Man benötigt eine Modelliermasse, ich bevorzuge z. B. Bees Putty und zwei glatte Brettchen. Verschnitt aus MDF oder Siebdruck-Platte sind perfekt.

     Knead the putty for a minute and roll a ball. Use the boards to roll out a 5 mm thick tube.

GERMAN: Die Masse ordentlich durchkneten, damit sie weich und geschmeidig wird. Dann zwischen den Brettchen eine etwa 5 mm dicke `Wurst´ rollen. 

Cut the tube into similar pieces. 

GERMAN: Rolle in gleichmäßige Abschnitte zerteilen

Knead a segment into a rough bag shape. Use a knife or a sculpting tool to model a notch all around the bag. This will be the seam.

GERMAN: Den Abschnitt mit den Fingern in Form bringen und ringsherum eine Rille einritzen

Press the bag a little bit flat and give it a typical baggy shape.

German: Den Sandsack andrücken und die Rille zu einer dünnen Naht formen 

Press the bag into a double-cut-file to give it a fine textil texture.

GERMAN: Den Sandsack auf einer Doppelhieb-Feile pressen, um eine faserige Struktur zu erzeugen

 Now it is time to repeat and build a nice sandbag barricade. If you are planing to make a mold - I would highly recommend to fill all the cracks with filler. It helps to make a easier and cleaner to cast mold.

GERMAN: Und nun wird der Vorgang wiederholt bis eine Barrikade aus Sandsäcken für die Truppe entstanden ist. Wenn man die fertigen Werkstücke mit Silikon abformen möchte, empfiehlt es sich die Ritzen und Spalte vorsichtig mit Spachtelmasse auszufüllen. So wird die Form sauberer und lässt sich einfacher verwenden.
